Sudo Kanoa

From Rebirpedia, the Pokémon Rebirth encyclopaedia.

Sudo Kanoa is an eccentric figure with a taste for the puzzling. He thrills at opening up the Trick House on a monthly basis - a building full of brain teasing challenges that he designed by himself. Here, he takes on the persona of 'The King of Tricks', supervising entrants of all ages as they compete to win a lifetime's supply of Pokéblocks.

While mostly friendly in a quirky sort of way, Sudo exhibits an unsettling level of sadism which shows up in most of the Trick House's puzzles. Combined with an equal level of clumsiness, Sudo has ended up becoming victim to the harsher end of his own trickery more than once.

Abilities

Sudo has quite the eye for tricks, pranks and riddles of all varieties. He is able to hold his breath for at least 20 minutes.

Preferences

Sudo enjoys coconut milk, long walks, swimming, stargazing and, naturally, solving puzzles.

Spoiler Warning - Major plot details may follow

Sudo was a relatively normal, though mischievous child - raised in a moderately-endowed family who specialised in costume design and manufacture. Due to his constant fooling about, Sudo didn't have any friends. At least until he met Vernon Elm - a shy young boy who was willing to put up with Sudo's quirks.

The two formed a curious friendship based on good-humoured teasing, exploring and often ending up in sticky situations as a result of Sudo's stubborn nature. It was this nature that resulted in the two companions discovering a hidden laboratory constructed by Ein Bohrgram - a place the scientist had been using to infuse human DNA data with Pokémon eggs.

Sudo was able to rescue a Slowpoke egg from the facility, but in the process tripping the alarm and exposing himself to the effects of one of the laboratory machines. As a result, he and the egg shared fragments of each other's DNA. Sudo ended up with a foot like a Slowpoke and an extended ability to hold his breath under water, the Slowpoke found itself with greater awareness and the ability to speak human languages. The two may be psychically linked in some way, as they seem to enjoy a lot of each other's preferences.

Pokey

Slowking

A gentle, ponderous, philosophical character, Pokey's intelligence surpasses that of even average Slowking, which are said to be more quick witted than their previous evolutionary stages. He is also able to speak the human language. Early on in Pokey's life, he stayed with Sudo Kanoa and his family, but as his abilities developed, Pokey tired of staying in one place and wanted to explore other parts of the world. During his travels, he accepted the role of ambassador for the kings of the legendary bird trio - finally settling down on Shamouti Island.

While he doesn't refer to himself by the nickname Sudo gave him, Pokey is fond of his human companion and patiently bears with his eccentricities.
