Pokémon are an
elemental band of creatures linked with purity, majesty and nourishment. Many members of this typing are very powerful, with some existing amongst the
guardian hierarchy. Because of this, they are highly feared and respected.
The Light Type is, curiously, not a newly-uncovered category, but a one with a previously different title.
In earlier times, the only Light Type Pokémon the common people were aware of were those with formidable, reptilian, dragon-like appearances. As a result, the element was dubbed 'Dragon Type', and those who had the gift and skill needed to tame these creatures were known as 'Dragon Masters'.
Upon recently discovering the similarities in energy frequency between dragon Pokémon and others with differing physical appearances, the decision was made by the Pokémon Institute to re-assess its labelling.
Unlike other elemental bands of Pokemon, Light Type biology generally has more of an impact on their weaknesses and resistances than their elemental typing. Light Types with reptilian and bird-like physiology are more vulnerable to cold, but those with bodies carrying blubber are not.
The energies of Light types are not considered to be actual light, but rather a form of amplifier to other elemental energies. This gives it both effective traits for healing, and also as a destructive force, depending on the way it is used. Light type energy exists in equal balance with that of
Dark type energy - neither one overwhelms the other.
Good and Evil
Despite some people's insistence that Light and Dark types represent the balance of Good and Evil, there exists no evidence to support this. Dark type Pokémon with good intentions exist, as do Light type Pokémon with bad intentions.
