GS Ball

From Rebirpedia, the Pokémon Rebirth encyclopaedia.

The GS Ball (as it was named due to the cuneiform upon its surface that resembles the letters G and S) has been the source of much speculation for scientists. It is thought to have been created quite recently - constructed with a material that prevents it from being transferred through Netspace. Despite resembling a Pokéball and containing a similar energy signature to that of a digitized pokémon, it is impossible to open.

Following its discovery, the GS Ball was passed from Prof. Ivy on to Prof. Oak for further study and, when no desirable information was gathered, on again to Kurt Baqer. It was stolen from there shortly afterward by Dr. Yung and used as part of a machine called the Mirage Field System that created virtual Pokémon on demand. Following the disaster that levelled much of Dr. Yung's laboratory, the GS Ball was retrieved and placed in the care of Prof. Burnet.

History

Two 'GS Balls' were created by Professor Newton Graceland as 'engines' for his Synchronicity Machine. Containing DNA samples from a cyber-organic life form, the GS Balls -when used inside the Synchronicity Machine- were able to configure a means for Realspace beings to enter Ultraspace without their bodies becoming corrupted.

It is thought that Newton was inspired by historical evidence and various surrounding data on the SpaceTime Towers located in Alamos Town. The G and S engraved onto these devices is an acronym for Newton's laboratory, "Graceland Sciences".

Effects

Both GS Balls are Variable modifiers, but one [GS 255] is dedicated to the distortion of matter, while the other [GS 256] is dedicated to the adjustment of time.

While both are considered highly dangerous if used singularly, GS 255 appears far more unstable. If activated improperly, energy backlashes from GS 255 can alter one or more traits in surrounding life forms. These include -but are not limited to- gender, height, weight, hair, eye and skin colour.

The unpredictable nature of GS 255 was responsible for temporarily altering the physical compositions of both Prof. Ivy and his assistant Millie Konane during their studies of the artefact.
