Alphagen
is a name given to humans with a unique set of defining characteristics.
Very few people know of Alphagens and the
majority of information about their existence and origins is kept top
secret by members of the
Agrarian Seers. Sparse details are also kept on file by the
International Police. In some regions it is a serious crime to reveal such
status about someone without permission.
History
Spoiler Warning - Major plot details may follow |
The name 'Alphagen' stems from the location
these types of humans originate from - an interdimensional location known
as the Alphaworld.
Almost all first generation Alphagens
arrived in Oci's dimension by accident through interspacial rifts via
some form of commercial transport such as aircraft or ship. There have
also been cases of deliberate passage.
It is hard to pinpoint exactly when these
types of humans gained access to this world, though currently the earliest
recorded date is 1966FD.
There are many similarities between the
Alphaworld and Oci's dimension, which helps to accommodate displaced Alphagens within it.
Alphagenic
Characteristics
Physical
One of an Alphagen's most defining physical
differences is their nose, which is rounder and more prominent than other
humans'. Not to be mistaken with a bulbous nose obtained through ageing,
an Alphagen's nose shape is as such from youth and tends to be its most
noticeable on males.
First generation (Alphagens who are not
descendants of those that first appeared) Alphagen hair colours only occur
in blond, brown, black, grey, white, and certain shades of red.
Additionally, they lack any amount of
Pokérol in the bloodstream, so until they've spent a few years eating
Pokémon meat, they are physically very fragile.
Most curiously, the
Aura
energy signatures of Alphagens are of an
entirely different frequency to those living in the Pokémon world. Due to
the inability to detect or read these energy signatures, scientists
originally thought Alphagens had no Aura at all. However, this means that Alphagens are incapable of using
Kakureiro
and have more difficulty understanding or being understood by Pokémon.
The flip side of this is that they also resist Aura-related abilities-
they're immune to non-telekinetic Psychic-type attacks and are hard to sense. In fact,
the only psychic-related telepathy-based ability known to get through to them is the
ability of Pokémon to understand any spoken language - suggesting that
this ability works on a more universal frequency. Unless an Alphagen lives in a
place where there are Kakureiro or
Cho'moken wielders around, they'll go completely unnoticed,
indistinguishable from other humans who don't use Aura.
Mental
They don't always react positively to the
sight of pokémon since these do not exist in the Alphaworld, and
absolutely despise
ghost
pokémon. Domestic
animalia
are another matter. Despite being extremely rare in Oci's dimension, they
are prevalent in the Alphaworld and as such, virtually all newly-appeared
Alphagens recognize the non-pokémon varieties of cats and dogs.
Like many rich people, they seem find the idea of children being strong
enough to survive on their own by the age of ten hard to swallow or even
revolting, asserting that it should take almost twice as long to become
self-sufficient.
They sometimes make references to things that seemingly don't exist. The
claim that the light bulb was invented by someone named either Einstein or
Edison and the phrases connecting
Phrossan Vikings
to a place called 'Minnesota' both seem to originate from this.
