Mewtwo (Japanese: Mewtwo) is a genetically-modified Psychic Pokémon commissioned by Giovanni as part of "Project Optima" - an elaborate experiment in pokémon cloning and enhancing. A large part of his DNA, as the name suggests, is taken from a Datenvo containing genetic information on Mew. However, due to the methods in which he was created, Mewtwo bears heightened psychic powers but isn't able to master all elemental attacks like Mew can.

This Pokémon was created by humans solely for battling. It rarely uses its physical body to interact with the world, relying mostly on its enhanced psychic abilities. Its DNA bears a striking resemblance to that of Mew.

History

Mewtwo began life as one of a series of Project Optima's experimental specimens, overseen by Dr. Phineas Fuji and Team Rocket's most skilled scientists. The other specimens consisted of -enhanced clones of Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander and a non-corporeal manifestation of Fuji's own daughter Amber who had died of a Moskastos bite some years earlier.

However, Bonnie Cormack (then a technician for Project Optima) felt that Mewtwo would not reach his full potential if left to develop and form friendships with the other clones. She resorted to sabotaging the capsules containing Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander and Amber, swiftly bringing about their end. The other scientists, unaware of this action, were forced to inject Mewtwo with a serum to wipe his short-term memory so that he would forget the occurrence. However, these memories remained buried in Mewtwo's psyche until a visit to the Seer Repository in Fiore unlocked them.

Mewtwo also soon discovered that Mew's DNA was not the only sort his body was composed of. Genetic data had also been extracted from Andh Yung, one of the most powerful Psychic Cho'moken-wielders of the time. As a result, Mewtwo subconsciously shares several of Andh's personality traits and preferences.

Abilities

Mewtwo displays many abilities as a result of his combined DNA. Telekinesis, telepathy, mind control, short-range teleportation and shield generation are available to him. He is also able to use the move Shadow Ball and proves to have a very high intelligence - shown in his ability to reconstruct scientific equipment and build himself a place to live.

It is thought that Mewtwo's 'castle' may have been created with Digita Material - further proof of the pokémon's astonishing IQ.

Preferences

Mewtwo is a strong justice-seeker who never feels enough can be done on his part to maintain stability between humans and pokémon wherever possible. He does not like to exploit his abilities in great displays of power, but rather spends a lot of his time in study and meditation.

Originally having been exceedingly distrustful of humans, Mewtwo now finds himself more at peace with them, particularly enjoying the company of his close friends Akiva Grenier and Megan Wakanda.
