Mendarus (mehn-dah-ruhs) is a glitch entity formed during the early years of Oci's existence. Their only desire appears to be to destroy everything that Tajigyama has made, and they constantly work in opposition to any being trying to preserve Oci and its life forms. Mendarus has formed many plans as a result of their intentions, and manipulated several influential figures throughout the course of history. Consequently, Mendarus was able to raise powerful civilisations - the greatest of these being Pokémopolis, the dynasty they ruled over while in control of Emperor Kato Sai.

Mendarus was also responsible for brainwashing Arceus, and bringing about the conduit's punishment.

Abilities

Mendarus' greatest power is that of manipulation. They have the ability to merge themself with a host, though only if said host is willing or unconscious, and therefore unable to resist possession. When operating symbiotically with a host, Mendarus can employ a range of abilities such as preventing the host from ageing, and amplifying the host's Aura in order to lend strength to their allies.

Physiology

Curiously, Mendarus' body resembles that of Arceus in humanoid form. However, Mendarus' power is but a fraction of the Conduit Pokémon. Being of unstable composition, Mendarus requires a constant supply of Aura to survive. This they primarily acquire from other surrounding life forms, and secondarily from the bodies of those it inhabits.

History

Mendarus was formed inadvertently as a result of a glitch in Tajigyama's processing - a malfunction caused by the being's own guilt over creating humans and Animalia. As a result of the emotion which birthed it, Mendarus functions purely on bitterness and malice.

Its first act was to travel to Oci's surface and manipulate humans into entering the heart of the Tree of Beginning, while disguised in a cervid form. The resulting actions caused an energy backlash across the planet which came to be known as The Corruption.

After being trapped on Oci, Mendarus set about stirring up discontent in the new pokémon species that now lived there. Using chunks of its own body, Mendarus created a life form called Carbink which oozed a substance later dubbed Melecium. With this substance, Mendarus turned hundreds of pokémon to their cause by using the Melecium to grant them enhanced power, but at a cost of permanent servitude. The Rebellion occurred.

Failing to overthrow as big a number of pokémon as they would have liked, Mendarus decided to return to the seemingly malleable human population instead. In convincing them that pokémon were threats that could not be lived peaceably with, the being instigated The Second Rebellion.

Forming an alliance with a Johtoan royal called Kato Sai, Mendarus gave their host the power to become Emperor and raise the Pokémopolis civilisation. Soon afterward, Mendarus brainwashed Arceus into believing that it had created all of Oci and its inhabitants under its own guidance. With Arceus duly punished thereafter, Mendarus set about expanding the Pokémopolis civilisation across Ransei.

Shortly after the Divergence, Mendarus was stripped of the majority of their life force and went into hibernation in order to preserve their own life. Some 1990 years later, Mendarus was re-awakened by a surge of aura and drawn to a living but seemingly uninhabited body. For the next three years, Mendarus occupied the body of Ash Ketchum. While too weak to exert any major influence on his mind, Mendarus prevented the boy's body from ageing beyond 11.

While visiting Brandon Austin's battle pyramid, Mendarus was temporarily reunited with the rest of his stolen life force and harnessed control of their host for a short time. The life force was quickly retrieved, and Mendarus resumed observation from the background. However, their stamina continued to be slowly restored until a day in 2000FD, following a severe shock to Ash which allowed Mendarus greater control over his actions.
